The Philippine Genome Center – Core Facility for Bioinformatics aims to fulfill two major functions:

First, the CFB aims to provide PGC researchers and clients with computing systems and needed support. These resources, which include high performance computing systems and a team of bioinformatics specialists, are set-up to enable researchers to efficiently process, manage, share, and analyze massive amounts of genomic data. More importantly, these will enable them to transform such complex data into information that are useful to both scientists and the general public.

The second is to host trainings and fellowships, workshops, and meetings/conferences for bioinformatics, and related topics in high peformance computing. These are designed not only to facilitate the development of local expertise but also to address the country’s need for manpower development.

Together with the DNA Sequencing Core Facility, the CFB pursues research programs that are relevant to PGC’s thrusts, including the development of novel or improved computational techniques (i.e. algorithms) and tools (i.e., software), as well as collaborative research projects that aim to find solutions to complex and computing-intensive problems.
